Eight perish in road accident at Nsuaem

Eight people died on the spot while others sustained various degrees of injury when a 207 bus and a truck rammed into each other at Nsuaem on Thursday at around 2000 hours. The driver of the 207 bus was among the dead while 9 of the wounded are on admission at the Tarkwa Government Hospital. Two others are on admission at the Effia Nkanta Hospital. Police Superintendent Kwadwo Antwi-Tabi, Tarka Divisional Police Commander, said the victims were on board a 207 bus from Enchi heading to Takoradi while the large truck was also from Takoradi to Awaso. According to some survivors, the vehicle on reaching the outskirts of Nsuaem, run into a pothole on the road and burst a tyre in the process and lost control of the vehicle. Superintendent Antwi-Tabi said suddenly, the truck which was also heading to Awaso on the same stretch of the road rammed into the 207 bus and veered-off the road. He appealed to drivers using the highways, to be cautious and extra careful to prevent road accidents as Christmas approaches. Mrs. Christina Kobinah, Tarkwa-Nsuaem Municipal Chief Executive, on Thursday visited the accident victims at the Tarkwa Government Hospital. She was accompanied by the Divisional Police Commander Superintendent Kwadwo Antwi-Tabi, Isaac Sorkpah of the Police Motor Transport Traffic Unit (MTTU). Mrs Kobina wished the victim well and pleaded with drivers to be extra cautious when driving and be defensive to prevent road accidents. She noted that road accidents were having a negative toll on the economy of the country since many bread winners were being lost through road accidents and appealed to passengers not to disturb drivers or engage in unnecessary arguments with them.
