Minister for the Interior, Mark Woyongo, has charged authorities of the Ghana Police Service to not graduate trainees who do not show the right attitude while under training.

He says trainees who do not submit to the principles of the Police Service should be dealt with at the recruitment level rather than allowing them to enter the system and give it a bad name.

Speaking at the Ghana Police Staff College in Winneba, Thursday October 9, 2014, the Interior Minister said it is time some trainees who exhibit corrupt and indiscipline tendencies are dropped from the school.

“It is not automatic that when you come out of this school you must be a policeman…If you do not have the attitude, if you do not have the character to be a policeman it shouldn’t be automatic that [when] you come here and you’ll come out as a policeman.

“The Police I know is doing all it can to weed out all those bad nuts and it should start from the classroom…If you show signs that you can’t be a good policeman they should not hesitate to drop you”.

According to Mr. Mark Woyongo, government is determined to reform the Service in order to maintain the public confidence in its fight against crime in the country.

“If you have any bad tendencies, leave them before you go out. We don’t want you to go out and influence other policemen…These are the new policemen that we want and it must start from the classroom,” he advised the trainees.
