Social entrepreneur, Eugenia Tachie-Menson has won the second edition of the Vlisco Dare to Dream campaign held at the Labadi Beach Hotel in Accra on Saturday.
The month long campaign by distributors of authentic Dutch wax fabric, Vlisco takes its origin from the International Women’s Day celebrated on March 8th every year to recognize and honour women across Africa for their achievements and outstanding contribution to nation building.
Mrs. Tachie-Menson beat contenders Ayesha Bedwei, a Tax Director at Pricewaterhouse Coopers and communications consultant, Anita Erskine-Amaizo to win the coveted crown as the 2014 Vlisco brand ambassador.
She takes over from the Chief Executive Officer of L’Aine Services Limited, Dr. Ellen Maama Hagan,who won the 2013 edition of the Vlisco Dare to Dream campaign.
As a brand Ambassador, Eugenia will represent Vlisco and tell the story of the brand at various VIP events. Aside her wardrobe being full of Vlisco fabrics, she will also have the chance to visit the Netherlands and meet with colleague Ambassadors from other participating countries.
Eugenia Tachie-Menson has been an inspiration to women in Ghana and her love for children led her to bring the USA’s Scripps Spelling Bee to Ghana. Her charity, Young Educators Foundations, runs educational programmes for children aged 8 to 18.
The well-attended ceremony was graced by former first lady, Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings, Joyce Aryee, founder and Executive Director of Salt and Light Ministries, Deputy Minister of Tourism, Art and Culture, Dzifa Gomashie, Hollywood actress, Rosario Dawson and other distinguished dignitaries.
Nollywood veteran actress, Stephanie Linus who was the face of this year’s Vlisco Women’s Month Dare to Dream campaign was the host for the occasion.
In an interview with Myjoyonline.com, an elated Eugenia said she will use the platform to reach out to a lot more children who don’t have access to education.
She thanked Vlisco for the honour done her and promised to be a worthy Ambassador for the brand.
