The West African Examination Council (WAEC) has denied rumors that all the papers taken during the April 2009 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) have been cancelled.
WAEC says all candidates and the general public should be reassured that it has not cancelled the papers.
The Council, in a press statement signed by the senior Public Affairs Officer for the Head of National Office, said the directive was taken against the backdrop of the Fadama ‘A’ Centre and the King and Queen School at Abeka.
The Police arrested an examination supervisor and two teachers for allegedly leaking questions on the Mathematics Paper Two of this year’s Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).
The three are Wisdom Kokroko, the supervisor at the Fadama ‘A’ centre, Musa Bukari and Donaldbell Gabada, both teachers of the King and Queen School at Abeka.
This year’s BECE began throughout the country on Monday April 20, 2009 and ended on Friday, with 395,582 candidates from 9,502 junior high schools.
The five-day examination, which is being held at 1,227 centres, began with reports from Kumasi that 106 candidates of Christ the King International School were not going to write the examination as a result of the failure of the school authorities to register them.
WAEC however said the incident at Fadama ‘A’ Centre and any centre will be treated on its own merit according to the rules and regulations of the council.
