The President of Rehoboth Foundation in the United Kingdom has urged Ghanaians to examine the background of politicians contesting for election before giving them the nod.
Reverend Celia Apeagyei-Collins says the character, and competence of politicians are critical to the peace and development of the country, hence the need to study their background.
Speaking on Joy FM's A Walk with Jesus programme Sunday on Transformation Leadership, the clergy woman said political parties do not produce results rather it is the leader.
With barely 56 days to the presidential and parliamentary election, many political parties have intensified their campaign activities.
The two leading political parties namely the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) have both launched their 2016 manifestoes.
Just when sections of Ghanaians thought the 2016's ballot paper would be long on the day of voting, the Electoral Commission (EC) has disqualified 13 out of the 17 presidential candidates who filed their nominations.
Addressing a news conference in Accra Monday, EC Chairperson, Charlotte Osei said she was unable to accept the nomination forms of the 13 parties because they failed to fill their forms properly.
The affected political parties include Progressive People’s Party (PPP), People’s National Convention (PNC), Ghana Freedom Party (GFP), National Democratic Party (NDP), United Front Party (UFP), United People’s Party (UPP), All People’s Congress (APC), Great Consolidated People’s Party (GCPP), and Independent People’s Party (IPP).
The rest include the Reformed Patriotic Democrats (RPD), United Development Systems Party (UDSP), Democratic People’s Party (DPP) and an Independent candidate, Alfred Kwame Asiedu Walker.
Only four political parties namely New Patriotic Party (NPP), National Democratic Congress (NDC), Convention People’s Party (CPP) and an independent candidate, Jacob Yeboah were approved to contest the December polls.
Advising Ghanaians a day before the EC disqualified the political parties, Rev. Apeagyei-Collins cautioned Ghanaians to be mindful of the people they vote for.
"If we are voting somebody into power, whoever they are, if they can't keep their zip up; they are indiscipline; they break covenant with the wife of their youth, and they move with everything in a skirt or shirt don't vote for them," she said.
According to her, people who have traces of indiscipline in their lives would be unable to watch over GHC10 million or GHC27 billion. They are going to remain unfaithful, she said.
Rev. Apeagyei-Collins was unequivocal that: “true leadership always arises when there’s a crisis. Therefore, the test of that leadership and whatever style it adopts is the capacity to solve that problem.”
