After scoring his first international goal for the Black Stars in his debut international game, defender Jerry Akamenko has promised an even better performance against Zambia eight days later.
The Turkey based defender soared above the Crocodile goal keeper to head home from close range to score the last of a seven goal thriller against Lesotho in a World Cup qualifier in Kumasi.
Akamenko told Myjoyonline.com shortly after the game that it feels great scoring in the game but assured of a greater performance hopefully when he gets a second start against Zambia in another World Cup qualifier in Lusaka.
“I feel happy, so great. This is the time I have been waiting for all this while and by His grace it has to pass. I know I have a lot of time. I am going to improve."
Asked if he has come to stay in the Black Stars, he said “Hopefully. The God who brought me here will prepare me. If I have to stay, I will. If I am not going to stay, everything is God.”
He said “Ghanaians should expect nothing but a good performance [against Zambia]. Maybe better than what I did today.”
With regular defender Isaac Vorsah returning from suspension against Zambia, it remains to be seen who coach Akwasi Appiah will pick in Central defence.
