Kwabena Osei, a 25-year-old farmer, was on Thursday sentenced to 24 months imprisonment in hard labour by a Koforidua Magistrate’s Court for stealing a bunch of plantain.
Osei pleaded guilty.
Chief Inspector Eric Twum-Frimpong, prosecuting, told the court, presided over by Ms Cynthia Wiredu, that the complainant was a farmer and resided at Akwadum near Koforidua with Osei.
He said on June 2 the complainant visited his farm and found out that someone had harvested his bunch of plantain.
The prosecutor said on the same the complainant Osei with three bunches of plantain and he identified one of them as belonging to him.
Chief Inspector Twum-Frimpong said the complainant questioned Osei where he got the plantain from.
The complainant who doubted Osei’s explanation called for assistance and had him arrested and sent him to the Police.
The prosecutor said upon interrogation, Osei admitted the offence.
