Some Firemen at Bibiani in the Western Region are reported to have assaulted a presenter of Adehyee FM for allegedly allowing listeners to call and make denigrating comments of them.
The presenter, David Dadzie, told Asempa FM he was beaten by the men who claimed he had allowed listeners to call and accuse them of employing the Service's vehicle in private undertakings.
The station, according to David, has a social programme which allows listeners to phone in and comment on the work of the local Assembly and other issues affecting the community.
He said a caller phoned-in and complained that officials of the Service use the station’s vehicle to conduct their own business rather than official duties.
David said the caller also alleged that officials of the Service in the area use the official vehicle to visit their girlfriends and sometimes park it at their fiancée’s house.
The presenter told Asempa News that on completing Wednesday’s programme, officials from the GNFS came in to harass him for allowing people to call into his programme to make unsavoury comments about the way state property is mishandled in the district.
He said after the programme, the firemen who had taken positions close to the station called him and asked whether he was the host of the morning show. He said he asked them to address any concerns to the station.
He said just as he turned to enter his office, received two rapid slaps from some of the officials.
According to David, he lodged a complaint at the Bibiani Police Station where he was delayed for a while before being handed a police form to visit the Bibiani Government Hospital.
He also alleged that when he reported the incident to the head of district fire service he told him that they (fire service officials) had already planned to beat him up whenever they got hold of him.
The medical superintendant of the Bibiani government hospital, Dr. Alex Obeng confirmed treating the radio presenter for bodily pains.
