The first batch of about 2,500 Muslims embarking on the Hajj pilgrimage this year will leave tonight for Madina.
The Hajj committee says all the prospective pilgrims will arrive there days before the rituals begin. That is to give them enough time to rest and adequately prepare for the month long activity.
Vice President John Dramani Mahama who visited them at the El-wak Hajj Village Monday morning asked them not to forget the country but use the period to pray for her wellbeing.
He wished the prospective pilgrims a safe journey, saying he was looking forward to welcoming them safely back to Ghana.
The Spokesperson for the Hajj committee, Halidu Haruna said adequate structures have been put in place in Saudi Arabia to ensure the comfort of all the pilgrims.
Zoomlion has once again provided air-conditioned shelter at the cost of GHS500,000 at the Hajj village for free.
Zoomlion’s Project Director, Fennec Okyere said this year’s tents have more advanced features than what they put up for them last year.
He said the company also increased the size of the tents to create more space to make the prospective pilgrims more comfortable.
Mr Okyere said there were good washrooms and the women were separated from the men in conformity to Islamic traditions.
