The management of Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) is investigating how a quantity of substances suspected to be narcotics found its way into the terminal building of the Kotoka International Airport.
The company has therefore set up a five-member committee to look into the matter and recommend appropriate disciplinary measures to be applied in the event establishing a breach in security procedures and the extent of guilt of any staff concerned.
A report published by the Ghanaian Times said the Committee has one week to submit a report expected to be without prejudice to whatever actions the Narcotics Control Board and other State Security agencies would initiate in respect of the discovery of the substances.
The terms of reference for the Committee are to establish the circumstances that led to the breach of security and also review the general guidelines of the security network at the airport.
It also has the mandate to investigate other matters related to the perpetuation of the said act.
Meanwhile, a security source at the airport has disclosed that two male security personnel of GACL and two other male employees of the Duty Free Shop are being sought to assist in the investigations.
"We have not ruled out the possibility of inviting more people in the course of our investigation. We are ready to co-operate with all other security agencies in finding out the perpetrators of the act in order to weed them out and save the company and the nation the embarrassment," a top security source at the airport said.
