The city of Accra is set to host thousands of runners and fitness enthusiasts as the First National Bank Accra Marathon returns on Saturday, November 8.
The event, one of Ghana’s premier long-distance races, will once again transform the capital into a hub of athletic endurance and community spirit.
Registration for the marathon is currently open and will close on November 5. Interested participants can register at any First National Bank branch nationwide or through the mobile short code *71333*40#.
Now in its third year under the sponsorship of First National Bank, the event builds on more than 30 years of legacy established by the Dansoman Keep Fit Club.
What began as a local fitness initiative has evolved into a national celebration of health, resilience, and unity, attracting both elite athletes and amateur runners from across the country.
Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of First National Bank, Warren Adams, reaffirmed the bank’s commitment to supporting the marathon’s continued growth.
“The First National Bank Accra Marathon has become an integral part of the community, and we are dedicated to giving it the support and attention it needs to be sustained,” he said.
“Our ambition is to create a world-class experience that inspires athletes and celebrates togetherness.”
Last year’s edition drew over 4,000 runners and 1,000 volunteers, filling the streets of Accra with colour and excitement. Organisers from the Dansoman Keep Fit Club say the 2025 marathon promises to be even bigger and more inclusive.
“Participants have praised the return of Ghana’s first true marathon and the improved spectator experience,” noted Benjamin Ahulu, Chairman of the Dansoman Keep Fit Club.
"This year, we’re raising the bar and making the race more accessible for everyone.”
The upcoming edition will feature a 42.2km full marathon, a 21.1km Half-Marathon for athletes aged 16–25, a 10km Youth Race for runners under 16, and a 10km Corporate Challenge for companies and fitness groups.
The organisers have upgraded last year’s 15km event to a half-marathon distance to further challenge young athletes and prepare the ground for the marathon’s full-scale return in 2026.
Among the athletes expected to compete is David Nakousi, the University of Ghana student who claimed victory in last year’s men’s 42.2km race. His title defence this year is anticipated to be one of the major highlights of the event.
With an expanded format and renewed corporate backing, the 2025 First National Bank Accra Marathon aims to reinforce its reputation as Ghana’s ultimate running festival — a celebration of endurance, unity, and community pride.
