Carbonatix Pre-Player Loader

Audio By Carbonatix

I never imagined us (the Multimedia family) coming together to celebrate Komla without him being in our midst. It doesn’t feel right and it just isn’t fair that one of our very own who has accomplished so much and still had a lot going for him and loyal audience. I can’t wrap my mind around it Lord, but I find comfort in the fact that you created us and only you know what’s best. The only way I can fathom our dear friend’s departure is that God must have really needed a news presenter for Heaven’s Broadcasting Corporation so He called on the best…the Boss Player.

One of my fondest memories of Komla was when I would join him in the JOY FM studio. I looked on with admiration as he ingeniously presented the Super Morning Show and dished out some Komla-isms. No one can deny that he was brilliant at presenting and had a remarkable sense of humor.

Ooooh Komla, it was such a pleasure knowing you. Thank you for pushing the envelope, breaking barriers and being an inspiration to the world. Your endearing smile and invigorating personality will never be lost on me. Rest in peace, dear one. You will live on in our hearts.

“What can I say in such a difficult time. I don’t think words can even describe the pain and vacuum felt as a result of the boss player’s death. It has shaken all of us to the core and given us another reminder of how fragile life is. I can only thank God for giving the boss player to us and also thank the boss player for teaching us what it truly means to serve our Maker, our family, our country and the world with such passion and dedication with the talents God has blessed us with. Komla, my JOYFM comrade, sleep well. You will be missed – “ebi you alone dey know your tins”.

“Komla, your insight into issues, the zeal and charisma with which you presented them to us made you the one transformational figure we had been rooting for. You had your own style which made you unique and attractive to all far and near. You executed your duties so well that people yearned for more from you. I remember JOY FM clients clamoring for airtime on the Super Morning Show and your voice on their radio commercials after our famous “WHERE Laa” advert.  You only did not make your family proud but also some of us who had associated with you.  Oh, how I could just ask God to “RELOAD” 41 years back so you will come to be with us again. But God said He also deserves to have “The Boss Player” with Him up there at this time so He called you to His Glory. So long Bro.”

“Komla, the news of your death hit us all hard; very, very, hard Komla!  You were such a professional when it came to your job, but outside work you were such a comedian!  We were a family at Joy FM and KT was our father....we learnt so much together. Your stay with us on this earth may have been too short but... The Lord our God knows why, so we give Him the glory for everything. We shall cherish the memories and they will linger on...
The JOYFM family has lost a brother. KT has lost a son! Komla, you live on.....memories of your life on earth remain. Rest in the peace of The Lord, dear comrade....

"I feel good panananananana.. I knew that I would now...” That soundtrack to James Brown's song always reminds me of our Mobitel Traffic Watch crew. For us, it wasn't just work, it was a lot of laughs and it truly felt like family. I have kept those memories and now they are the ones I keep going back to, thinking of you and our little squad. I remember starting in Legon and talking to you about quitting Joy FM so I could have more time to chill with my friends. You convinced me not to and told me how you yourself were making it work, balancing school and work and of course chilling. You told me when I graduated; my experience would pay off big time. That was one of the best advice I have ever received. Komla, you always worked so hard and you always drove for excellence in whatever you did. You brought such joy with your great sense of humor and you made everyone you came across feel special as witnessed from tributes the world over. My mom will miss you calling and asking if you can come over for her banku and "fetridetsi". Thank you so much for being a part of my life, it is so much richer for knowing you.

"Moreover, brothers, we do not want you to be ignorant about those who are sleeping in death, so that you may not sorrow as the rest do who have no hope. For if we have faith that Jesus died and rose again, so too God will bring with him those who have fallen asleep in death through Jesus" - 1 Thessalonians 4:13-14

Unbelievable!!!

It cannot be true! I was in London just recently and couldn't help but visit Komla at the BBC’s new office. In his usual energetic manner, he showed me round the office and we spent some time to relive the old days. For what it was worth at the time, I told him how I appreciated working with him and thanked him for all the advice over the years.  I also made him know how proud I was of him for what he had accomplished.I cannot believe the boss player is no more with us. That meeting is still very fresh in my memory. Boss player, you will be in my heart always.

Every generation, people have natural opportunities to produce champions that lift up their lot. Nature endows but the choice is the individual to use. Komla stepped up using his natural endowments to elevate a generation and sacrificing himself. Rest assured, Komla, your sacrifice is etched in hearts and minds.

Komla did not only launch my career at JOY FM, but he also ensured that I became successful. Among others, that meant taking it upon himself to pick me up from Mensah Sarbah hall, Legon at dawn daily to the studios of JOYFM. He cared not only about the Joy Sports Centre on the Super Morning show but also about Afraks’ very well being. As such he kept in touch even after I left broadcasting. As someone who had to learn broadcasting on the job, I looked up to you for daily inspiration. Your penchant for hard work, excellence, ultimate professionalism alongside your selflessness, style and warmth seen in that ever present smile will remain with me forever until we meet again.

I never imagined us (the Multimedia family) coming together to celebrate Komla without him being in our midst. It doesn’t feel right and it just isn’t fair that one of our very own who has accomplished so much and still had a lot going for him would be called to heaven so abruptly…leaving behind grief-stricken family, friends, loved ones and a large and loyal audience. I can’t wrap my mind around it Lord, but I find comfort in the fact that you created us and only you know what’s best. I was privileged to have been instrumental in the formative years of Komla’s broadcasting career. It was on my programme Drive Time that he first aired his voice on JoyFm reporting for the Mobitel Traffic Watch. His first report was terrible. Not for its content or structure, but for the fact that he had lost his voice and was barely audible. He tried to explain to me through those raspy whispers that he had a voice that would make Barry White blush but it was the fact that he had written a script that was detailed, witty and humorous that got me thinking. I had to give him a chance to prove himself. So I recommended he stay on the programme when I was asked. He stayed on air and worked his magic.

It wasn’t a bed of roses but he persevered. Even when recognition eluded him in the beginning he persevered. I have sat back and watched him rise and rise; getting that special interview and discussing pertinent issues with world leaders. He was intent on getting there and boy did he get there…. the very top.

I am of the firm belief that it is I who was privileged to have recognised his talent and qualities and given Komla a chance on the radio. Just look what he did with it!

Komla you will be remembered fondly. You knew what you wanted and worked tirelessly to get it. Maybe you worked too hard…but you were never one for half-hearted attempts. Well-played, Boss Player. Your candle burned out way too early for some of us but God knows best.

May God grant your soul rest beyond the river.

TRIBUTE TO KOMLA AFEKE DUMOR BY GABBY ADJETEY

………………………………………………………

Today, I Celebrate a man, a son, a brother, a father, a husband, a friend..  I celebrate an icon, I celebrate an idol. I celebrate Komla Dumor!
A fine gentleman with an impeccable sense of style. A high flying achiever with the humility of a saint. A rare gem common to the masses. He lived to learn, learned to live, left a legacy.
I celebrate his relentless pursuit of what he believed was right & just. His insatiable hunger for knowledge & his interminable quest for excellence. I celebrate his resilience & his persistence, his humility & his humour. I celebrate his gumption & his charm. His big heart & his big smile & his big voice...
I celebrate that he encouraged many & inspired most. I celebrate that he was thorough & deliberate in his thinking about his Ghana & his Africa. I celebrate that in the face of adversity, he refused to be broken, he refused to fail.
I call him the steak; oh, he had all the sizzle! He had substance & he had style! He was a dynamic presenter with the charisma of a lion.. He was comparable to few. He was indeed an icon on the world stage & he played his part to the admiration & resounding applause of his audience. Hate to love him or love to hate him, you would still love him somehow; for he was the star of the life he had & the life of the star he was.
Alas, his show is over, he has taken a bow. I give him a standing ovation. He earned my full respect.
In Joy FM jargon, I say "Komla!! Waazaaap, Dis tin you do us be unbearable, maaan! Dis tin no be good tin! You kill fire brutal.. You no be nyaaking "bet" you do us serious nyaa!" And, I can almost hear him roar with laughter & say "Ivy, Charle you be goood tin"
Rest in perfect peace.... Komla. I salute you, now and always. You'd stay forever in our hearts....  FOREVER
