The former Member of Parliament for Lower West Akim in the Eastern Region, Gifty Klenam, has defected to the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Prior to her defection, she won the Lower West Akim seat twice, in 2008 and 2012 on the ticket of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP).
She lost her bid in the party's 2016 primaries.
During the 2024 general election campaign season, she openly supported Alan Kyerematen, who also left the NPP after losing his bid to become the party's flagbearer and went on to form his Movement for Change.
