Education Minister, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum says the free SHS initiative introduced by the Akufo-Addo-led government has become part and parcel of the country’s educational system.
According to him, government would continue to finance the initiative following its success such as encouraging girl child education and improving accessibility and participation in general.
“The government will continue to make available the right resources to ensure that all schools have what is required to support effective teaching and learning at all times irrespective of location,” he stated.
He gave the assurance during a visit to some selected schools in the Central Region on Friday to monitor the adherence to the Covid-19 protocols, implementation of the free SHS policy and teaching, and learning.

Wesley Girls High School, Academy of Christ the King SHS, Holy Child School, St. Augustine's College were among the many schools he visited.
The Minister used the opportunity to admonish the students to remain focused on their studies and adhere to the Covid-19 safety protocols. He noted that their safety is a priority to the government.

He further assured the leadership of the various schools that his outfit would liaise with the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GeTFund) to find a lasting solution to encroachment within the locality.
This is after Central Regional Director for Education, Mrs Martha Owusu-Agyemang said the major challenge confronting schools in the region was encroachment and appealed to the Minister to do something about the situation.
She also assured the Minister that the necessary measures would be adopted to ensure that students continue to work extra hard to maintain the reputation of the country with regards to the education sector.
During his visit, Dr Adutwum also donated five pianos to some selected basic schools in the Municipality.
