The Member of Parliament for Asante Akyem North in the Ashanti Region, Kwame Anyimadu Antwi is asking Fulani herdsmen in the area to leave.
Mr. Anyimadu Antwi said the people are fed up with the alleged heinous activities of Fulani herdsmen in the area.
He said people are now afraid to visit their farms for fear of being killed by the herdsmen while their women also feared being raped.
Kwame Anyimadu Antwi said this on Adom Fm’s Dwaso Nsem on Friday when commenting on activities of Fulani herdsmen in the Afram Plains area.
There have been series of reports about Fulani herdsmen terrorizing people in some parts of the country, especially the Afram Plains in the Ashanti, Eastern and Brong Ahafo Regions.
Some of the herdsmen have been accused of raping women in farms while others have reportedly murdered some individuals as a result of fierce battle which often ensued between the Fulanis and the indigenes whose farms are usually destroyed by cattle of the herdsmen.
Barely six weeks ago, a farmer at Agogo, Kwame Awuah was allegedly gunned down by Fulani herdsmen. Seven herdsmen are currently standing trials for the murder.
Meanwhile the MP has stated that residents of Agogo and its environs are now disappointed in security personnel in the area, adding, the residents have the perception that security personnel in the area are shielding the herdsmen.
The Spokesperson for the Agogo Youth Association, Kingsley Obeng accused Alhaji Karim Grunsah of allegedly procuring fire arms and ammunitions for the Fulani herdsmen, to terrorize the people of Agogo and surrounding villages.
He claimed that Alhaji Grunsah owns part of the herd of cattle in the area and has therefore provided the herdsmen with arms.
However, Alhaji Karim Grunsah could not confirm or deny whether he is the one providing arms to the herdsmen.
Alhaji Grunsah said he legally acquired the said land for his cattle to graze there, after going through the necessary processes with the Paramount chief of Agogo Traditional area, Nana Akuoko Sarpong. He said he has not violated any regulations.
The Agogomanhene filed a writ of summons to eject the Fulani herdsmen from the land, but Alhaji Grunsah is contesting the eviction notice from the Omanhene over the said land.
Alhaji Grunsah said herds of cattle at Agogo belong to three people who are Ghanaians, including himself, one Alhaji Dauda and Alhaji Salia.
He however denied reports that an indigene was gunned down by the Fulanis, saying the person in question fell off from a Motor bike and died.
In a related development, the District Chief Executive for Asante Akyem North, Thomas Osei Bonsu has accused Alahji Grunsah of flouting the rules of the Assembly without registering his herd of cattle.
The DCE stressed that the Assembly does not accrue any revenue from the cattle business at Agogo.
The DCE also accused Alhaji Grunsah for flouting the rules enshrined in the agreement between the Agogo Paramount Chief and the herdsmen, which includes the construction of wells where the cattle could drink from.
Thomas Osei Bonsu noted that because the rules have been flouted, the cattle drink from the same stream that serves over eight communities in the area and also destroy their farm produce.
Meanwhile Madam Adowa Baah, the widow whose husband was allegedly killed by the Fulani herdsmen insists that her husband was gunned down by the Fulani herdsmen.
