The Ghana Athletics Association (GAA) has predicted Youth Olympic gold medalist ,Martha Bissah, may fail to qualify for this year's All Africa Games in Congo Brazzaville.
Bissah, whose manager complained days ago about her neglect by the association, has failed to consistently record any times close to what led her annex gold in China last year.
The GAA is also debunking claims that her development has been deliberately stifled especially when it comes to securing scholarships to train abroad.
A member of the GAA, Erasmus Kwaw, in an interview with Joy Sports explained how the athlete and her manager pressed the self-destruct button. "The issue of neglect doesn't come in. We wanted Martha to go the next level, and that's how the GAA went through its networks to find her a scholarship.
"All she had to do was to bring her [senior high school exams] results. It's based on your results that the schools in the United States look at you. Till now, we don't have those results."
To this end, the GAA has also projected Martha Bissa may miss the qualification boat for this year's All Africa Games.
"The best she has done this year is 2m 11s. Last year when she won the 800m gold in Nanjing, she ran 2m 4s, and she needs to run that same time to qualify for the All Africa Games."
"Only last week she ran 2m 12s. The next [contentious] thing, I'm sure, that will come up for discussion is if Martha fails to qualify for All Africa Games," Kwaw went on.
Meanwhile the athletics governing body is waiting on the Ministry of Sports to release funds for their preparation with weeks to the multisport event.
The 11th African Games are scheduled for September 4–19, 2015 in Brazzaville, Congo.
This edition marks the 50th anniversary of the Games, as well as their return to Brazzaville, which hosted the first edition in 1965.
