A youth group affiliated with the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Garu Constituency of the Upper East Region has staged a protest against what they describe as discriminatory practices by their Member of Parliament, Thomas Winsum Anabba.

The group alleged that the MP has not demonstrated fairness in the distribution of political appointments within the constituency.
At a press conference held in Garu on Monday, 2nd June 2025, the aggrieved NDC youth cited several concerns, including alleged favouritism in the allocation of the School Feeding Programme, as well as reported attempts by the MP to reappoint an individual as the Garu District Director of the Youth Employment Agency (YEA).

They claimed the YEA position is already occupied by Mr Thomas Tampuri Wennam, who was appointed only a few weeks ago and has since assumed office.
The youth further alleged that Dr Anaba is working exclusively with individuals who supported his candidacy during the NDC parliamentary primaries.
They have therefore called on the national and regional executives of the NDC to intervene and rein in the MP’s conduct.

“We call on the national and regional executives of the party to call Dr Anaba to order and urge him to desist from running a parallel administration,” a spokesperson said.
In response, the District Chief Executive (DCE) for the area, Mr John Abugba Abaare, who responded to the allegations on behalf of the MP, refuted the allegations made by the group.

He attributed the misunderstanding to poor coordination among the NDC constituency executives in Garu.
