Hajia Sherifatu Sulley, the woman who led a demonstration to demand the dismissal of the National Security Coordinator, Col Gbevlo Lartey has been charged with breaching the Public Order Act. Police say she failed to abide by the law which stipulates that the police needed five days notice before any such demonstration could be held. Greater Accra Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Cyprian Zenge told Joy News that Hajia Sulley had brought a letter to the Greater Accra Regional Police Commander on Monday notifying the police about her intended demonstration the following day. He said the police warned her against embarking on the demonstration but she went ahead to do so. On Tuesday, the demonstrators stormed the NDC party HQ to petition the National Executives and to call on the president to fire the National Security Coordinator. They accused Col Gbevlo Lartey of undermining the president. Hajia Sulley claimed the Coordinator had bought a car for a chief in the Volta Region who is purported to have insulted the president. She also accused Col Lartey of scheming to get his son elected as a parliamentarian for Hohoe in the Volta Region. Col. Gbevlo Lartey has meanwhile dismissed the allegations, accusing some party kinpins of plotting to have him dismissed from office. It is not yet clear when Hajia Sherifatu will be arraigned before court. She has however dismissed accusations that she has been manipulated and pushed into making those claims to have Gbevlo Lartey sacked. She told Joy News nobody can “push” her into making a false claim or an accusation against anybody.
