In an effort to provide protection and to grant some amount of autonomy to Football Associations (FAs) across the world and for the development of the game, the world football governing body, FIFA barrs political leadership of same countries from DIRECTLY interfering in the activities of its (FIFA) member bodies in those countries.
FIFA, cleverly however, in its statute books has provisions for an establishment of Public Interest Committee (PIC) by the FAs, a liaison body through whom the respective FAs and Ministry of Youth and Sports/political leadership can work to among other things, formulate policy, fight corruption, ensure accountability to the people.
Former Adidas Ghana representative and football administrator, Kojo Bonsu, Kojo Twum Boafo and others since 2010 have been ardent advocates for the setting up of this Committee and with the aim of developing the game and sanitizing the GFA, an action the embattled President, Kwesi Nyantakyi and his men almost always resisted.
Prez John Mills (late) had to travel to Switzerland to competently seek FIFA's assistance on the matter. Out of pressure, PIC was formed but to have Abedi Pele as its chairman was also rejected by Kwesi Nyantakyi and his cabal at the FA, prefering Aloysius Denkabe as the chairman.
As to what the status of that Committee has become, one cannot tell.
As incompetent as they are; with a hammar in hand, seeing every challenge as nail, President Akufo Addo and his govt can do four quick things in order to avoid FIFA's looming sanctions over the claimed announcement of the FA being dissolved;
1. Check from his good friend, Kwesi Nyantakyi and the Executive Committee of the FA about the current status of the PIC.
2. Activate the dormant Committee (if there's) to do the reforms Government intended. (if indeed meant to be done and not the usual #Talk Only.)
3. Get the existing FA to put up a new PIC to carry out the needed reforms in an event that the previous Committee's mandate expired and notify FIFA.
4. Learn from your predecessors as COMPETENCE and TACT are required in handling such delicate matters in order not to kill the nation's passion.
