Carbonatix Pre-Player Loader

I am a passionate man so I get incensed sometimes. Today as I presented The Pulse on JoyNews on MultiTV, my colleague Benedict Owusu came to present sports.

In his usual gusto, he walked in with a representative to talk about the start of the premier league, the launch and what to expect.

I also saw evidence of Ghana's league start being launched at the FA head office with clubs presenting its jerseys for the season.

I looked out for something that will attract me to this launch. Honestly I found none.

As I write, the European Champions League is midway at the round of 16-stage.

The English Premier League is 12 games away from completion. Same can be said about the La Liga, German league and all the major leagues around the world.

And before the innuendos begin on my angst, indulge me.

Yes it is true that there was a sponsorship challenge for Ghana Premier League.  Yes there were court issues to address. I know the list of challenges is long.

But if I am being admonished to patronize Made in Ghana goods and services, treat me like a customer with a commodity irresistible to pass.

For three straight years the league has always started in one way or another with controversy – point deductions, fielding of an eligible player or some bout of confusion. The result: a delay.

Which businessman will want to stack millions of his hard earned cash into a venture where there is no amount of seriousness or organized structure?

Even a 14-year-old knows this.

I am tired of the inconsistencies. Country Man Songo may be a brash talking irritating character but he speaks one truth- “the football people are not taking control of the Ghanaian’s passion”.

Don’t be surprised when the Ghanaian footballers begin to become ‘showboys’ in other countries (if that is not happening already) while back home there is no use for the stadia and investments.

I predict with clenched teeth and the best frown I can find that Ghana should kiss continental success goodbye. We should kill that dream until we return to the basics.

All the great, award-winning football nations worked with a plan. They didn’t just script wonderful ideas on paper. They made those words breathe and practiced what was on the sermon script.

Germany worked and got it right. They have won world cups based on careful planning; honing talents and turning their league into a conveyer belt for the national team and global soccer superstars.

The same can be said for England.

The bug of global dominance may have bitten them (the English FA) by pouring foreign players and coaches into the league. But they are unyielding in their efforts to ensure their local lads development themselves to international standard.

A Special dedication please, ladies and gentlemen…

Mr. Ibrahim Saani Daara of the Ghana FA I fancy you are a man of repute. You know what you are about but next time you talk about TV stations shying away from showing foreign league highlights or live matches, pause and look at what you are serving for your weekend buffet. It’s an apology of a meal.

You cannot have a cup of water and expect to taste well-brewed coffee when you drink it.

I am sorry but no one should come tell me to patronize the ‘Made in Ghana league’. It is on sale. But I am not buying it.

This mediocrity must stop at some point.
