Dr Lawrence Tetteh, an international evangelist, on Sunday asked the Ghanaian media not to loose track of time-tested fair and balanced reportage in order to keep the country united.
“All media houses have the collective responsibility to foster national unity, cohesion and integration and use the medium to educate, inform and entertain conscientiously.”
Speaking to the Ghana News Agency at the 75th anniversary of Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) in Accra, he said: “The mandate of the media to entertain should not give the leeway for the broadcasting or publication of indecent programmes.”
Dr Tetteh said journalists have a duty to promote the “African Personality”, the national image and cherished traditions and maintain their independence and fair posture.
He expressed the need for GBC to continue to be the voice of the voiceless and strive to keep the best of standards.
“GBC must use the anniversary celebration to encourage moral values and preserve national stability,” he said, adding that “as the pioneering broadcasting house, GBC should not be inspired by the crave for over commercialization of its activities and should rather focus on its social responsibilities to the citizenry and the nation as a whole.”
He commended Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah, Ghana’s premier Head of State and Arnold Hudson for their vision in establishing GBC and asked the audience to observe a minute silent in their honour.
