Ghana’s Ambassador-Designate to Italy, Mona Quartey, started her duties on November 27, 2025.
She was welcomed by the staff of the Ghana Embassy in Rome after presenting her Open Letter to the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The Embassy staff received her at the chancery during a brief reception that introduced her to the diplomatic and administrative teams she will work with to strengthen Ghana’s ties with Italy.
Her arrival in Rome is an important step toward deepening cooperation in trade, education, culture, and investment between Ghana and one of her closest European allies.
Her presentation of the Open Letter, a standard diplomatic requirement, officially confirms her recognition by the Italian government and ovo88 slot completes the initial step of assuming full ambassadorial responsibilities.
Ghana and Italy have maintained strong diplomatic relations since 1957, with cooperation covering development support, trade, education exchanges and cultural partnerships.
Italy remains one of Ghana’s important European trading partners, with collaboration in agro-processing, energy, manufacturing, and small-business development.
In recent years, both countries have expanded cooperation in renewable energy and technology innovation, areas expected to see further growth.

Italy also hosts a significant Ghanaian diaspora community, whose economic contributions and remittances are vital to local families and national development.
The Embassy in Rome plays a central role in supporting this community, resolving consular challenges and linking Ghanaian professionals and businesses with opportunities across Italy.
Mona Quartey is a respected economist, former Deputy Finance Minister and experienced private-sector leader known for her work in public financial management and investment facilitation.
Her background in banking, fiscal planning and economic policy positions her to champion Ghana’s interests in Italy’s diverse economic landscape.
She has previously worked to strengthen public-sector accountability and support growth-oriented reforms, earning recognition for her results-driven approach.
Madam Quartey takes office overseas at a time when Ghanaian ambassadors abroad have been given Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) on what the government defines as a successful tenure.
Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, said the initiative was designed to strengthen accountability across Ghana’s missions and ensure envoys deliver measurable outcomes that support national development.
He explained that the KPIs were developed to guide the work of ambassadors in areas such as trade promotion, diaspora engagement, investment ovo99 mobilisation and consular efficiency.
According to him, envoys were expected to demonstrate clear progress in attracting foreign partnerships, protecting Ghanaian citizens abroad and projecting the country’s image in a competitive global environment.
