The vigilance of members of the Anti-Trafficking Unit of the Ghana Immigration Service at the Elubo border saved a 12-year-old girl from being sent to Cote d'Ivoire to serve as a maid-servant.
Mr Albert Ahajie, Assistant Superintendent of Immigration at the Elubo border, told the GNA that on December 9 last year; the girl, Comfort Yeboah, was seen loitering at the "Security Zone" at the Elubo border.
Upon questioning, Comfort said a woman was sending her to Cote d' Ivoire.
Mr Ahajie said Comfort told them that the woman had crossed to the Ivorian side of the border at Noe and had asked her to walk to meet her there.
Mr Ahajie said Comfort later gave them her mother’s telephone number and she was surprise at her daughter's presence at the border when she was called.
Comfort has been reunited with her mother at Axim and security intensified at the border to prevent human trafficking.
