The Tema Regional Police Command has intercepted a total of 1,613 parcels of substances suspected to be narcotic drugs in a well-coordinated operation along the Akosombo-Tema road.
The breakthrough, which occurred in the early hours of 11th January 2026, is part of ongoing efforts by law enforcement to curb drug trafficking in the region.
The operation followed intelligence received on January 10, indicating that suspected narcotics were being transported from the Volta Region toward Tema.

Police quickly mounted surveillance along the Agomeda Junction area, ultimately intercepting two vehicles—a white Toyota Highlander (GS 2013-13) and a black Mitsubishi Pajero (GC 400-22)—at around 12:45 a.m.
The vehicles were driven by 33-year-old Isaac Odoi and 39-year-old Kwame Mani, who were immediately arrested.
Searches of the vehicles revealed 872 parcels in the Mitsubishi Pajero and 741 parcels in the Toyota Highlander, all suspected to contain narcotic substances.

“The swift response of our teams ensured that these dangerous substances did not reach our communities,” said ASP Dede Dzakpasu, Head of Public Affairs for the Tema Regional Police Command.
The suspects and the exhibits were handed over to the Regional Criminal Investigations Department (CID) in Tema on 12th January 2026.
Samples of the seized substances are set to be sent to the Forensic Crime Laboratory for analysis, and further searches will be conducted at the suspects’ residences. Police also confirmed that court proceedings are being prepared.

ASP Dzakpasu stressed that the Tema Regional Police remains committed to tackling drug trafficking.
“We urge the public to continue sharing credible information to help us keep our communities safe,” he said.
The operation reflects an intensified effort by the police to disrupt criminal activities in the region and protect public safety.
