Two men linked to the transportation of suspected narcotic substances have been arrested by the Greater Accra Police Command for allegedly attempting to bribe a police officer with GH¢30,000.

According to Greater Accra Regional Police Relations Officer Supt Juliana Obeng, the incident occurred on Friday, September 11, 2026, after officers of the Bravo SWAT Unit, acting on intelligence, intercepted a Kia Rhino truck with registration number GN 5581-13 at Abofu, near Achimota.

The truck was reportedly travelling from Kpandai and was suspected of transporting and distributing narcotic substances in Accra.

Police said the occupants of the vehicle fled after allegedly spotting the officers, leaving the truck and its contents behind.

A subsequent search of the vehicle led to the recovery of 175 compressed slabs of dried leaves suspected to be narcotic drugs.

The suspected substances were allegedly concealed in three sacks and three “Ghana Must Go” bags.

The truck and the recovered items were subsequently conveyed to the Accra Regional Police Headquarters for further investigation.

During the investigation, two men, identified as Mark Bangel, a trader from Kpandai in the Oti Region, and Zakaria Arafat, who describes himself as a mechanic residing in Kpando in the Volta Region, reportedly appeared at the Regional Police Headquarters.

Police said the two men claimed ownership of the truck and the recovered substances.

The two allegedly attempted to influence the Bravo SWAT Unit Commander by offering him GH¢30,000 to secure the release of the vehicle and the suspected narcotic substances.

The suspects were subsequently arrested, while the alleged bribe money was retrieved by the police.

Supt. Obeng said further investigations have revealed that the suspects mentioned a third person identified only as Salam, who allegedly drove the truck and the suspected narcotic substances from Kpandai to Accra.

Efforts are currently underway to apprehend Salam.

The two suspects are assisting the police with investigations, while the suspected narcotic substances and the truck remain in police custody as exhibits.

The allegations against the suspects have not yet been tested in court.
