Gold Fields Ghana, operators of the Tarkwa and Damang mines in the Western region of Ghana are collaborating with GIMPA in the area of HR Capacity development.
Twenty-two senior personnel from various public sector institutions participating in the GIMPA CEO’s Program received professional coaching and mentoring at the head-office of the mining giants in Accra.
Currently, The Gold Fields/GIMPA Leadership Program, where selected senior Gold Fields managers undergo training at GIMPA is underway.
The coaching support was at the instance of a request from the GIMPA Public Services School (GPSS) to Gold Fields Ghana to host participants on its Chief Executive Program (CEP). The study tour focused on the areas of strategic leadership, culture and change management techniques which have positively impacted on the Gold Fields Ghana business.
The Executive Vice President of Gold Fields West Africa, Mr. Peter Turner, who is also the Managing Director of Gold Fields Ghana, gave the participants a brief overview of Gold Fields International and regional operations, the mining industry and its challenges. Additionally, he spoke on the key tenets of leadership and management.
Mrs. Pamela Djamson-Tettey, Head of Corporate Affairs and Sustainable Development of Gold Fields West Africa, expanded on the Consultative Engagement model that Gold Fields Ghana employs in promoting its social partnership with all stakeholders.
Commenting on the program’s success, Jones Yaw Sarkodieh, Lecturer at the GIMPA Public Services School, and the coordinator of the program said: “the study tour to Gold Fields has been extremely beneficial to our participants as they assume more senior roles in their respective institutions. The presentations were unique. It is our intention to request that Gold Fields continue to support us in this way’’
The participants included senior personnel and management of the following institutions:, District and Metropolitan Assemblies, Lands Commission, United Nations Industrial Organization, FAO, Ministry of Energy, Regency Alliance Insurance, Ghana Prisons Service, Electoral Commission, Virgin Investment, University of Ghana Business School, Central University and GIMPA officials.
