The opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) says it has sensitive information proving that the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) is scheming to put in danger, the life of its election 2016 flagbearer Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
Acting National Chairman of the Party, Freddie Blay, at a news conference Thursday revealed that “some attack on our presidential candidate and his vice” is imminent. “If we are not careful it will happen,” he said.
The party said it was in view of this intelligence that it hired South African security consultants to train their leaders entourage.

But the ruling government is unconvinced and has accused the NPP of planning to destablise the nation ahead of the November 7, 2016 elections.
The Bureau of National Investigations picked up the three South African nationals for unlawful training and charged them with conspiracy to commit crime.
The NPP has condemned the arrest and accused the NDC of trying to “criminalize legitimate effort to protect the flagbearer and the running mate.”
The party says 15 party members including drivers and photographers need training. A driver who has received such training lauded the exercise.
He told Joy News Thursday it was to “evacuate the presidential candidate and running mate as quickly as possible” in an event of an attack.
“What is wrong with that?...You want us to sit down like a lame duck and watch that happen?” Fredie Blay wondered.
Deputy NDC General Secretary Koku Anyidoho argued that President Mahama should not be drawn into the legitimate work of the BNI.

“It has got nothing to do with President Mahama” Anyidoho rebuffed. He said the three South Africans were brought into Ghana on the pretext of a business trip.
“What are they doing training people in weapon handling?” the Deputy General Secretary questioned.
Attempts by the NPP to undermine state security apparatus, he said, is improper of a flagbearer seeking to become president.
