Gideon Doe Adifu, a 40-year-old fashion designer from Agbedrafor in the Akatsi South Municipality of the Volta Region, has been slapped with 15 years’ imprisonment for defiling and impregnating his biological 14-year-old daughter.
A Sogakope Circuit Court presided over by Mr Joseph Nadaado, sentenced Adifu to 10 years in hard labour for defilement and five years for incest, with both convictions to run concurrently.
Briefing the court on Monday, January 12, Detective Chief Inspector Haruna Doho from the Akatsi Police Command, told the court that the convict, who lived with the victim at Akatsi Kpotame together with his wife, had been sexually abusing his daughter since 2022.
He said the convict’s wife, the complainant in the case, detected that their daughter was pregnant and upon interrogation, the victim confided in her and narrated her ordeal.
The complainant then reported the matter to the Akatsi Police, who proceeded to arrest the convict after a medical examination report was conducted, revealing that the victim had been sexually abused and was 17 weeks pregnant.
The accused was later arrested, and investigations revealed that he started having carnal knowledge of her daughter somewhere in 2022 at Akatsi- Zuta, where the victim was living with her parents.
The statement indicated that in 2024, the family relocated to Kpotame-Akatsi, where the convict continued having sexual intercourse with his daughter whenever other family members were not at home.
Chief Inspector Doho further told the court that the convict, after his arrest, admitted his offence and pleaded guilty.
The presiding judge, upon a careful examination of the case, sentenced Mr Adifu on his own plea to the charges of defilement and incest.
