Youth employment interventions across the country are expected to receive major boost following government’s decision to increase budgetary support for existing and yet-to-be created programmes and projects from next year.A Minister of State at the office of the President, John Gyetuah who announced this said among other strategies, government is considering expanding existing modules under the national youth employment programme and efficiently equip the decentralized structures of all existing social interventions intended to create more jobs for the country’s teaming youth.Youth unemployment and job creation has become topical ahead of the December elections, with many politicians giving assurances to solve when elected in the December general polls.The Minister was addressing a graduation of 440 beneficiaries of the ICT Module under the NYEP at Cape Coast in the Central Region.The six-month training is a collaboration between the NYEP and the Rlg Institute of Technology, a subsidiary of Rlg Communications.Beneficiaries are taught introduction to basic computing, software and hardware programmes, entrepreneurship and mobile phone and computer repairs.Beneficiaries are also given set of equipments to facilitate business set-up upon completion of the course.The Minister who is also the Member of Parliament for Amenfi West in the Western Region said government was very much aware of the effect and impact of unemployment among the youth and is doing everything possible to financially and socially empower them.Central Regional Minister, Ama Benyiwa-Doe in a speech read for her said the 440 were part of thousands of youth offered skills and knowledge acquisition for the past four years.The Deputy National Co-ordinator of NYEP, Selasie Attipoe said various modules under the NYEP are being overhauled to ensure efficiency.The Paramount Chief of Abura, Nana Kwadwo Addae II who chaired the function advised beneficiaries to make good use of the training.The Head of Rlg Institute of Technology, Isaac Appiah said efforts were being made to create more training centres across the country to allow access by more desirous youth.The beneficiaries were drawn from Swedru, Asikuma, Dunkwa-on-Offin and Cape Coast.
