Daasebre Professor Oti Boateng, President of the Eastern Regional House of Chiefs, has appealed to the government to resource the Ministry of Chieftaincy and Culture to facilitate work of its judicial committees.
He said resources required to administer justice as enshrined in the 1992 Constitution (Act 759) are to prevent chaos in the respective communities, adding that its provision would be far cheaper compared to what is spent on peace keeping activities after disruptions in the same communities.
Daasebre Oti Boateng was speaking at the swearing in ceremony of two chiefs in the House who were elected unopposed to occupy some positions at a ceremony in Koforidua on Thursday.
The chiefs, Omanhene of the Akyem Bosome Traditional Area, Okotwasuo Kantamanto Oware Agyekum III, was elected as the new Vice-President of the Eastern Regional House of Chiefs and Daasebre Akuamoah Boateng II, Omanhene of the Kwahu Traditional Area, becomes a member of the National House of Chiefs.
Daasebre Oti Boateng assured all parties with cases pending before the Judicial Committees of the House and the Traditional Councils that effort would be made to ensure that hearings were expedited even under "our difficult circumstances."
He challenged members of the House to justify the confidence reposed in them by expediting hearing of cases before the various judicial committees of the Traditional Councils and the House.
Daasebre Oti Boateng, who is also the Omanhene of the New Juaben Traditional Area, reiterated his assurance to members of the House that his administration would be characterized by collective leadership.
Justice Kosi Efo Kaglo, a Koforidua High Court Judge, swore the two chiefs into office.
