Hearts of Oak have announced their preparedness to return to their position as one of Ghana’s top football clubs following last season’s disappointing run. A new coach and a renewed sense of entitlement, the Phobians appear invincible. Who can challenge this resurgence and the confidence of Kenichi? And do we have a Leicester City variant in Dreams FC? After two match days, the most important statistic to report of is that there have been no draws so far this season.
The weekend however starts at the home of the champions Ashantigold who play one of last season's contenders.
AshGold v Berekum Chelsea
After the unsuccessful campaign to takeover Africa, AshGold are back home to compensate their supporters with domestic glory. Just like Medeama, they have started the season with a barrage of games against very formidable sides. This weekend, the defending champions face the second highest scoring squad from last season, Berekum Chelsea. Last week, Chelsea beat Wafa at home by a lone goal.

Asante Kotoko v Medeama
Kotoko will host Medeama in this weekend’s headliner in Kumasi. For the FA Cup winner, this game will come as yet another tough encounter in the new season. Tarkwa has been silent since the start of the league after losing to defending champions AshGold and Hearts. Kotoko also find themselves in a similar position. The Porcupines were not in action last weekend (because opponents AshGold were in Algeria for the Champions League) and that should have given Coach David Duncan enough time to prep tactically to outwit an equally hungry Tom Strand.

Dwarfs v Hearts of Oak
With two wins in two games, Hearts of Oak mean business and Coach Kenichi Yatsuhasi is a man on a mission. Last season’s campaign was disastrous and it is Kenichi and his rejuvenated side’s duty to erase that memory. The Phobians travel to Cape Coast in a quest to continue their impressive run against Ebusua Dwarfs who are yet to win a game after making a return to top flight football. Coach JE Sarpong is under a lot of pressure to deliver a positive result at the Robert Mensah stadium.

Techiman City v Aduana Stars
It has not been a good start for both sides this season. For former champions Aduana Stars, it has already cost Coach Ahmed Nurudeen his job. Earlier in the week, Nurudeen who guided the team to third place last season resigned after a disappointing start to the season. Newcomers Techiman City have also had a torrid start. Their most recent bump was a 4-2 loss to Hasaacas last week. Both teams are eager to record their first win of the season and as such should provide a good backdrop to a wonderful game in Techiman.

Inter Allies v Dreams
It has been a dream start for Dreams FC as the newcomers have taken the Ghana Premier League by shock. They have won all six points available and are hoping to continue their impressive run as they visit Inter Allies in Tema. The hosts will be hoping to bounce back after defeat to Liberty last week.

All Stars v Liberty Professionals
The Stars are shinning bright this season after commencing the league with a perfect clean slate of four unanswered goals. The team attributes its resurgence to a training tour of Saudi Arabia and will be hoping to continue their good run against Liberty. The journey from Dansoman to Wa will be very long and fatigue or its avoidance should be a major concern for Liberty.

Wafa vs Hasaacas
A win and a loss. That is how Wafa and Hasaacas have begun the new campaign. The two sides produced standout performances last season and a clash between the pair is set to thrill spectators in Sogakope this weekend. Wafa beat Asante Kotoko in the first game of the season and their very youthful side have a strong record of causing upsets in the league.

Bechem United v New Edubiase
Bechem and Edubiase struggled to keep themselves afloat last season and this season is proving to be no different. The two sides will need to convince their supporters that they can put up a strong challenge this time round to finish significantly higher on the table at the end of the season. That journey would perhaps begin for one side this weekend at the Bechem Park.
