The Accra Academy Astro Turf is set to be commissioned on Tuesday July 18, 2017, only few days before the school’s Homecoming event slated for August 5.
Bleoobi Asamoah Gyan who is also the Black Stars skipper, will together with his team led by Samuel Anim Addo, commission the $200,000 project which began in November 2015.

Gyan broke the ground for the commencement of the project in 2015
Perfectly green and smooth, adorned with flood lights, the commissioning of the turf will be a fitting thank you by Gyan to the school which honed his young talent under the tutelage of Coach JE Sarpong who was then the school’s Physical Education lecturer.
The Astro turf replaces the sandy pitch on which Gyan learnt his art.

Coach Sarpong spotted the talent of a little gem who was skillful on the ground with his feet and speed; a terror in the air with his head; a perfect all round striker who was part of the Accra Academy team for the VALCO Tournament in the year 2000.
Right from Accra Academy through to Cedabs Babies, a colts team, to Liberty professionals all in Ghana, Asamoah Gyan has braced the odds in a long career of temporary setbacks and amazing successes.
The all-time highest scorer for the Black Stars with 51 goals, Gyan will be happy to commission the Astro turf in a school that played a great role in his great career.

The project comprises a 3, 000 metre artificial turf which was imported from Turkey.
It will be a great facility for a school that believes in holistic education by developing both talents and brains at the same time.
