There have been calls from several quarters for what many will call the true identity of Ghanaian music, High-Life, which has for some time been over shadowed by modern forms of music such as Hip life and Hip hop. Ghana became very famous internationally through its distinctive hi-life life tunes with a name like Osibisa running on the lips of many across the world. To curb the diminishing trend and revive the hi-life music industry, the World Bank in collaboration with stakeholders is organising 'Hi-Life Festival Ghana 2010'. The event, which is the brain-child of Mark Okraku Mantey, is aimed at re-branding and projecting the Ghanaian Hi-Life music as well as honouring hi-life musicians whose talent has continued to put the Ghanaian brand of music on the international map. Organisers held a media launch of the event at the Alisa Hotel pool side Friday with notable hi-life musicians Amandzeba Nat Brew, Rex Omar, A. B. Crentsil, Dr Paa Bobo and Ben Brako in attendance. Other personalities who graced the event included Kofi Tsikata, Kofi Nyantakyi, Cox Tamakloe, David Dontoh and Carlos Sakyi. Mark Okraku Mantey in a short speech said organisers have not yet fixed a date for the festival but it will take at various locations in Ghana. He noted that hi-life music has been neglected to the point that it has been listed among the ‘endangered species’ category. He expressed delight that various stakeholders have decided to come onboard to pull resources together to arrest the apparent collapse of the high-life music industry. There were exciting performances from some of the music greats who attended the event. Their great stagecraft showed that hi-life music never dies. Notable artistes who performed included Rex Omar, A. B. Crentsil, Ben Brako, Dr Paa Bobo, King David and Kwabena Kwabena. There was a question and answer sessions where the media and personalities were given the floor to get answers to their various questions.
