A Supervising High Court Judge in Kumasi is asking traditional authorities to call politicians whose utterances has the tendency to plunge the country into chaos during and after the December 7 polls to order. Justice Robin Batu says Ghana does not belong to politicians but rather it’s nananom who are the legitimate owners. Speaking at a meeting of the National House of Chiefs in Kumasi, Justice Batu took a swipe at politicians, describing them as having recycled themselves. Justice Batu’s comments followed an appeal by the Ashanti Regional Electoral Commission boss to the chiefs to advise all stakeholders to play their role well for a peaceful Friday polls. He warned politicians there are rules governing the country which should be followed by all. According to Justice Batu, though the various flagbearers have pledged their commitment to the promotion of peaceful elections, same cannot be said of their followers whose conduct is characterized by insults. He wants Nananom to call such people to order by summoning them to their palaces. “ The politicians will recycle themselves and come, nananom and fathers of the country will always be there so you have more stake in the peace than them”, he said. He wants traditional leaders to use their high office to promote sanity in our political discourse by calling those found to be running insult-filled campaigns to order. “We still hear insults from some of them. I think nananom as our fathers should be able to call these people to order. I will advise them they don’t own this country”, he explained. President of the National House of Chiefs, Professor John Sebiam Nabila called on Ghanaians to conduct themselves in a manner that will promote and uphold the peaceful atmosphere the country has enjoyed over the years. On his part, Regional boss of the Electoral Commission, Samuel Tetteh says the commission has played its part well for successful elections. According to him, it is left with stakeholders to also play their part well to make the process a success. Meanwhile, the house has re-elected Wurugu Naba Professor Nabila and Awulae Atibrukusu the third as President and Vice-President respectively. Unlike Prof Nabila who was elected unopposed, Awulae Atibrukusu had to shove-off fierce competition from Kukuomhene Osahene Kwaku Aterkyi II and Togbe Afede XIV, the Agbogbomefia of Ho Asogli. But in an election supervised by the Electoral Commission, Awulae Atibrukusu polled 21 against 17 from Togbe Afede his closes competitor whilst Osahene Aterkyi managed only 7 votes.
