The Volta Regional Security Council in consultation with the Interior Ministry has announced a reduction in the curfew hours in Hohoe. The curfew now begins from 12 midnight to 5 am daily effective, Monday June 25, 2012, a huge improvement on the nine hours they hitherto had to stay indoors. This was confirmed by the Regional Minister Henry Ford Kamel in an interview with Joy News Volta Region correspondent Agbeko Ben Coffie. The dusk to dawn curfew was imposed after violent clashes between indigenes and the Zongo community which led to three deaths. After thorough peace talks with the feuding parties calm returned to the area leading to the relaxation of the curfew from 8:00pm to 5:00 am. The Zongo community over the weekend issued an apology to the Gbi Traditional Council and to Torgbega Gabusu for the violent conducts of the Moslem youths. It appears the situation has improved drastically, informing the decision to reduce the curfew hours further down to five hours. Agbeko Ben Coffie said the town has been relatively peaceful with business gradually picking up.
