The Member of Parliament for Ayawaso West Wuogon, John Dumelo, has stated his opposition to the use of sirens on vehicles by Members of Parliament (MPs) to ease transportation during their duties.
Speaking in a widely circulated video, Mr Dumelo expressed his personal stance on the matter, noting that while sirens may facilitate movement, he does not consider them necessary for his work as an MP.
“I was with him in parliament for orientation, but I just left. A Plus says we need sirens, maybe that's his opinion, but personally, I don't think I need a siren,” he said, referring to comments made by his colleague, Kwame Obeng Asare, popularly known as A Plus.
The Ayawaso West Wuogon MP acknowledged that the issue has sparked a long-standing debate among MPs, with some advocating for the use of sirens. However, he reiterated his personal disagreement with this view.
“I know some people do, and it's a debate that has been ongoing for some time, but personally, I don't,” he added.
The debate over whether MPs should be permitted to use sirens for transportation continues to divide opinions, with some arguing that it enhances efficiency in performing their duties, while others view it as unnecessary and disruptive.
