The Ashanti Regional Police Command has arrested 12 individuals in a series of intelligence-led operations targeting robbery cases across the region, with three suspects connected to the recent murder of the Kusasi Chief at Asawase, Kumasi.
The arrested suspects are Abdalah Alhassan, Jemini Usman (Babamu), Aminu Iddrisu (0244), Illiasu Dauda, Majeed Issaka Jibril, Gafaru Ibrahim, Mohammed Mumuni (Mama), Tanko Malik (Bronze), Mohammed Bawa (Mallam), Dramani Musah, Suleman Yasir Arafat (Obasanjo), and Ashaidu Sumbieda (Eyeshadow).
In a statement issued on Thursday, March 19, the police linked Jamil Usman (Babamu/Guru), Suleman Yasir Arafat (Obasanjo), and Ashaidu Sumbieda (Eyeshadow) to the killing of the Kusasi Chief.
A Toyota Corolla with registration number GC•439-21, believed to have been used during the crime, was recovered by the authorities.
The statement said that during the operations, two suspects, Illiasu Bawa and David Aheto, sustained gunshot injuries and later died despite attempts to save them.
Several firearms and ammunition were also seized, including two AK-47 assault rifles, one pump-action gun, two pistols, 44 rounds of 32 ammunition, and 24 rounds of 9mm ammunition.
One suspect, Illiasu (Abodam), remains at large, and police have confirmed that efforts are ongoing to apprehend him.
The police said the arrests are part of continued efforts to clamp down on violent crime in the region and bring perpetrators to justice.
