Former Member of Parliament for Assin North and business magnate, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, recounted how he sacrificed his sleep and worked menial jobs, aiming to achieve his amassing wealth.
He chronicled how he took extra shifts and worked through the night and weekends just to raise enough to support his livelihood in America and save for his planned investments.
He was speaking at a 2025 Entrepreneurship Summit, held at the Cedi Auditorium of the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS) in Ho in the Volta Region.
“Friday nights, my friend will go to parties, so I will take their shifts and work while they are partying. So, Saturday I did 24 hours, Sunday, I do 24 hours, [that makes it] 48 hours”, he said.
Mr. Agyapong, who is making a second bid to become the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), explained that he procured a taxi with his first $3,000 savings and engaged in taxi driving, to start another chapter of his life in a foreign land, all aiming at becoming successful.
He said that embedded in his plan was to earn at least $3,000 while working as a taxi driver towards future investments.
Success is determined by individual dreams
Mr. Agyapong asserted that success in life is determined by an individual's dreams and visions.
According to him, acquiring education without setting out visions and life goals would not lead to success but failure.
He said that individuals who can consolidate their capabilities and are determined to attain their life goals, visions, and dreams would achieve success.
“Success is determined by every individual's dreams and vision. You are studying, but that alone will not determine your success in life”, he said.
Nuggets for success
He listed “dream big, develop goals, learn to sacrifice, plan your life”, among others as nuggets people, especially students should consider on their life journey to becoming a successful individual.
Mr. Agyapong emphasized that cultivating the habit of saving towards investment, is one surest way to become successful, urging the students to be determined to save a significant aount of their income, towards future investments.
He warns against prioritizing womanizing, indicating that “getting a lot of girls isn’t success, cultivate the habit of saving and investing”.
Mr. Agyapong gave an empirical statement of how he worked hard towards achieving his goals and persevered to protect his investments, urging individuals to emulate the same when aiming at success.
He disclosed how women disappointing him three times due to his impoverished lifestyle in the past, partly drove his zeal to become successful.
He called on the students to be courageous and always prepare to take risks, when aiming for success, adding that honesty plays a vital role in the business environment and hence must be considered in dealings.
He rounded up his speech by urging the younger generation to “postpone your spending for tomorrow, invest in the future, and always be determined to protect your investment."
