Mr Ralph Osei Ameyaw, Executive Secretary of the Council of Indigenous Business Associations (CIBA), on Wednesday called on managers of the national economy to give adequate recognition to the informal sector.
He said though the sector creates between 60 to 80 percent of the jobs in the country it was not being given the appropriate attention.
Mr Ameyaw was addressing a two-day capacity workshop for about 50 members of CIBA drawn from Ho and its environs on Wednesday.
Ghana Employers Association (GEA) is sponsoring the training sessions under the Business Sector Programme Support (BSPS), funded by DANIDA.
Mr Ameyaw said he expected that the training in mainly financial and general management, accessing loans, record keeping among others should cascade to other operators through their executives attending the workshop towards raising productivity in the sector.
He announced that CIBA had crafted a pension scheme for its members under the third tier pension scheme for the informal sector as provided in the new pension law.
Col Cyril Necku (rtd), the Deputy Volta Regional Minister, said government was creating the enabling environment for businesses in the informal sector to thrive.
