The Minister for the Interior, Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak, has defended the actions of some national security operatives who attempted to arrest the MP for Akwatia, Ernest Yaw Kumi.
The MP was convicted by a Koforidua High Court for attending the swearing-in ceremony for new MPs himself despite an injunction application against him.

Answering questions in Parliament on Tuesday, March 18, Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak insisted that the officers of the National Security followed the law.
“The Koforidua High Court on February 19, 2025, issued an arrest warrant for Ernest Yaw Kumi, Member of Parliament for Akwatia constituency. The warrant was served to the National Security through the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) Eastern office, via the National Security Coordinator,” he noted.
Mr Muntaka Mubarak mentioned that the circumstances surrounding the attempted arrest of the Member of Parliament by the officers of the NIB were in accordance with the High Court's orders.
“Right Honourable Speaker, the circumstances surrounding the attempted arrest of the Member of Parliament by the officers of the NIB were therefore carried out in accordance with the orders of the High Court, per the warrant dated February 19, 2025, for contempt,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Supreme Court on February 26, by a 4-1 majority decision stayed the High Court in Koforidua from sentencing the MP in the contempt case pending the final determination of a motion seeking to quash the ruling.
