President John Dramani Mahama made a high-profile stop at the University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC) on Saturday, 21st February 2026, to visit the Ga Mantse, King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, following the monarch's harrowing road accident earlier in the week.
The President, arriving with a senior entourage, spent time with the Greater Accra King to personally assess his recovery.

The visit, captured in widely circulated social media footage, underscores the close ties between the current administration and the Ga Stool. Shortly after the presidential visit, the Ga Mantse was officially discharged by medical staff and has since returned to his private residence.
Midnight accident in the Oti Region
The incident that sparked national concern occurred on Tuesday, 17th February 2026.
The King’s vehicle was involved in a crash at Pai-Katanga in the Oti Region.
The King was on his return journey to the capital from Tamale, having spent several days in the Northern Region on a private mission at the invitation of the Ya Naa.
The visit to the Gbewaa Palace was more than social; it was a strategic effort to "deepen unity and strengthen bonds of mutual respect" between the Ga State and the Dagbon Kingdom.
Despite the timing and location of the crash, the Ga Mantse reportedly escaped without serious injury. The Ghana Police Service provided immediate assistance at the scene, facilitating the King’s secure movement back toward Accra for further evaluation.
Ambassador (Sir) S.J.K. Parker-Allotey, Chief of Protocol and Communications for the Office of the Ga Mantse, confirmed in an official statement that the King was in stable condition.
“By the grace of God, there were no casualties and with Police assistance and support of his aides on board the vehicles involved, they were all successfully evacuated to Accra, where they underwent medical checks and were discharged in very stable condition,” the statement noted.
The palace reassured the public that the King’s recovery was proceeding perfectly.
