The male team failed in their attempt to pick the only slot available for Africa after finishing fourth in the Olympic Qualifying competition in Randburg, South Africa.
The Black Sticks lost heavily to Egypt in the semifinals curtailing any dreams of making the Olympics. The standout performance at the tournament however was Ghana’s 27-0 victory over Botswana.

Despite this blip, female sensation Nafisatu Umaru was adjudged best player of the tournament.

On the local front, Trustees of the Social Security and National Trust secured the Beige Capital hockey knockout competition in addition to the hockey league.
In the women’s category, Police Ladies won the ladies Atta Mills Memorial cup, and the hockey league despite losing the Beige Capital hockey knockout to Extinguishers
