The residents of Suhyen, a suburb of Koforidua, the capital of the Eastern Region were thrown into shock when some people in the town were reported to be planning evil to remove the chief, Okogyeman Ankomah Basapong I, who was installed about four months ago.
The residents saw some strange objects suspected to be juju being removed from the backyard of the palace of the new chief.
According to the sister of the Chief, Madam Grace Antwi, since her brother was selected to ascend the Suhyen throne they have never known peace at the palace.
She said that any spiritual person who enters the house always have something to say about the plans of people in the town who were trying to dethrone the chief.
Madam Antwi said some men of God visited the house recently and told them to be careful because there were signs trouble was coming their way and that somebody has evil plans against them particularly the chief.
She said that the discovery of the juju in the house came as a result of a prophecy by Prophet Obo Adadewa of Great Life Worship Centre at Suhum where her 33-year-old daughter, Gifty Boama, worships.
Madam Antwi said her daughter brought the man of God to the house on Friday evening at about 8:00pm, who prayed for them and finally the juju was discovered at the back of the palace which was exhumed and sent to the church.
She said when the prophet opened the juju, there were two small pots with red calico and three cowries each around them and two large eggs and turkey feathers.
The chief’s sister said when the prophet broke the eggs it was filled with blood and the two pots were also filled with some concoction which she could not describe.
Many people including elders in and around the palace who spoke to the Spectator said they had never seen nor heard about such an incident in the town.
They prayed that God would take control of the affairs of the town until the chief returns from Kumasi where he works as an accountant at the Manhyia Palace.
When the chief was contacted on phone he said, “am not moved by such things because it is God who installs kings, distools them and once I am legally and customarily installed I have no fears.”
He said there were rumours at the time of his outdooring as chief about the presence of juju but he did not take it seriously because it is not all the people in the area that would like him.
Okogyeman Basapong said he does not believe in such things because he is a Christian and whoever fights him fights God and so whether it is a planned thing or real it is only God who can judge rightly.
“My prayer is that the people would buy into the vision I have for them, come together and join me to develop the town because we are far behind,” he said.
