The Member of Parliament for the Karaga Constituency, Dr Mohammed Amin Adam, has outdoored an electoral area development program for all the 33 electoral areas within the constituency.
Each electoral area is due to receive 10,000 Ghana cedis to help address some of the challenges facing their respective areas. So far ten electoral areas have been supported with 10,000 Ghana Cedis each.
The support, which is from the MP’s share of the MP's common fund, is an initiative by the MP to help address some of the immediate needs that come to the attention of Assembly Members.
The MP said even though he is bringing development such as schools, health centres, potable water among others to the area he has realised that there are some challenges in these areas that if the Assembly Members are empowered financially they can help address.

“There are some small small problems in these areas that the people expect the Assembly Members to address but it’s been difficult for Assembly Members. For instance in cases like the maintenance of a borehole, fixing of a leakage of a school roof among others they would look up to them to address but because they don’t have the resources, everything is pushed back to the MP but if they have these monies they can always fall on it anytime challenges arise," he said.
Dr Adam said all the areas presented a budget of what they want to do, the money is lodged with the Assembly and works are done through the Public Works Department of the Assembly.
"After writing to the MP's office the budgets are approved and a 10,000 Ghana cedi budget allocated to each electoral area. The money is put under the care of the Public Works of the Assembly and the DCE will then supervise the execution of these works,” he said.
This, the Member of Parliament said will help Assembly Members to use the funds to support their various electoral area’s developmental needs.
