Mr. Sulemana Hussien Issah, President Mills' nominee for the position of District Chief Executive for Karaga on Tuesday failed to get the endorsement of the assembly members to confirm him as DCE.
Mr. Issah polled 20 votes with 13 against and one spoilt ballot paper out of 34 votes cast and thus failed to get the two thirds required to confirm him.
The confirmation was conducted by the Electoral Commission and supervised by Mr. Sylvester Kanyi, the Northern Regional Electoral Officer amidst heavy security.
According to the electoral rules, Mr. Issah has a second chance with a period of 10 days in which another election could be held to confirm him.
Mr. Moses Bukari Mabengba, Northern Regional Minister, who was disappointed by the results, urged the people to unite and pursue a common agenda for their development.
