The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology is hosting the International Process Optimization Challenge.
The International Process Optimization Challenge under the DigiLog project promotes global collaboration in process management and digitization.
The project bring students from different countries together in teams to tackle real-world challenges posed by local companies in the area of logistics.
Project coordinator Dr. Alireza Ansera spoke on what the project aims to achieve.
“The aim of this project is to increase sustainability and efficiency in the logistics sector. We have a specific focus on processes because we believe that are the core part of the efficiency, increase and productivity of an industry.
“Especially in Ghana we see that there is a huge need in industry for that and that is why we are trying to equip students with different tools that they can use to optimize, to analyze the process in logistic companies,” he said.
He also mentioned that, “Ghana has a lot of potential in terms of improvements that could also be realized as an action during such activities we found also Ghanaian students are very talented and committed students. Which are very important to this project because we focus a lot on students and SMEs”
Project leader in Ghana, Dr. Samuel Akomea from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology explained that the project gives opportunities for the youth to be self- employed
“Companies like Borris B farms for instance have registered themselves as an anchor poultry farm which is going to deal with other out growers.
“So you come to them sigh a contract that I have built structures that can take two thousand birds, five thousand birds or even more they need evidence of your land. “Then evidence of structures and that they are neat. And they’ll go ahead to give you day old chicks the number you require, the feed that will be used at every stage of the chickens life and technical support services in terms of veterinary.
“When the chickens are ready they will buy all of them . So it means that when you sign with them you’ll have no marketing issues because the buy everything.
“The good thing is every graduate even if you’re not a graduate and you can fulfill the conditions you can get employment and you don’t need your own capital,” he said.
Students from Ghana, Tunisia and Germany will be put together in groups to bring up solutions that Boris Bs farms and Vertinary Supplies Ghana Limited, Thinket Company Limited, M and M delivery services and AppNet Consult Limited .
