A deputy Ashanti Region Minister under the erstwhile Kufuor administration is disputing allegations he sold a parcel of land cheaply to a land developer, Oduro Sarpong in the region. A spokes person for the Ashanti Region Minister Francis Dodovi made the allegations after a near violent confrontation between a man, said to be the nephew of the land developer and body guards of the Kumasi Mayor. The man had gone to the site to break down trees and begin developing the land but was prevented by body guards of the Mayor. The body guards claim the disputed land is a security zone and cannot be sold. The misunderstanding led to a scuffle with reports of a near assault of the Kumasi Mayor. Francis Dodovi in an interview with Adom News alleged Oduro Sarpong bought the land from the former deputy Ashanti Region Minister under the erstwhile Kufuor regime, Osei Asibey Antwi at a paltry sum of GHS 400.00 ten years ago. But Mr Asibey has described the comments of Dodovi as a “twisted story.” He told Myjoyonline.com, ten years ago he was not a deputy Minister to have sold the land to Sarpong. He would not however say whether or not the land was sold to Sarpong during his tenure as deputy Region Minister. Asibey also dismissed claims from Dodovi that Sarpong is domiciled in abroad, saying Sarpong is a known business man and a land developer in Kumasi. According to him, Sarpong holds the title to the disputed land, adding that title was given to him by the KMA boss who was appointed under the NDC government. He said the land permit which Oduro Sarpong holds was also given to him by the current KMA boss. He did not understand why the spokesperson to the Regional Minister will now turn around to peddle what he claims to be falsehood about the controversial land.
