Former President John Agyekum Kufuor has warned against the neglect of the underprivileged in society.
According to him, when the unfortunate ones feel neglected, they are likely to direct their anger towards society in the form of crime and other social vices.
The former President was one of the guests at the Efua Sutherland Children’s Park, where thousands of underprivileged in society were fed and given healthcare at the 2013 Joy FM Easter Soup Kitchen.
A thousand and six hundred people, mostly young women and their children, were registered under the National Health Insurance Scheme. And another two thousand received comprehensive health screening and medication.
Executive Secretary of the Ghana Pharmaceutical Society, Dennis Sena Awitty, led a large number of volunteers, including medical doctors, to diagnose and dispense drugs.
Head of Marketing at Joy FM, David Max Fugah, said the expectation of the organizers was met.
The Joy FM Easter Soup Kitchen put smiles on the faces of the participants, as they ate and tested their clothes, but behind those smiles are harrowing stories of hopelessness and despair.
Twenty-eight year old Faustina Mensah is confined to the wheelchair and she earns a living as a beggar. She and her eleven year old daughter are homeless, but she is expecting another baby.
She told Joy FM’s Manasseh Awuni Azure the father of her child, who is also a disabled beggar, lives in a wooden apartment in Adabraka, but has thrown her out because he does not think he is responsible for her current pregnancy.
