The son of the former president Edward Agyekum Kufuor has given the editor of Enquirer newspaper and deputy Finance Minister Fiifi Kwettey, a 14 day utlimatum to retract and apologise over allegations that he received a $2million contract from the Ministry of Energy for the supply of prepaid electricity metres in 2007.
The deputy Minister of Finance claimed that the Eurobond cash accessed by the erstwhile New Patriotic Party (NPP) government in 2007 was wasted under the watch of President John Agyekum Kufuor.
Mr. Fifi Kwetey said, the money was never utilized in the relevant sectors for which it was accessed. Some pro-government flysheets have alleged that Edward Agyekum Kufuor's company, ACES Company Limited, was a recipient of a $2 million contract from the Ministry of Energy, for the supply of prepaid electricity meters in 2007, just when the Eurobond cash arrived.
But according to Edward Kufuor, he does not have any company bearing the name ACES Company Limited and therefore challenged Raymond Archer and Fiifi Kwetey to prove it.
He said, if anyone doubts him they can crosscheck at the Registrar General's department to find out whether he owns a company with such a name.
Edward Kufuor stated this on Asempa FM's current affairs programme in response to allegations leveled against him by the Deputy Minister of Finance.
Edward Kufour stressed that he wonders how a company can issue a huge sum of money to his company without issuing receipts to that effect.
He called on Fiifi Kwetey and the editor of the Enquirer, Raymond Archer to make judicious use of their offices to help the government achieve its promises rather than making such allegations.
