Mayor of Kumasi Kojo Bonsu has said he will totally re-brand Kumasi into a model city worth the accolade – the garden city.
Nobody should doubt him, he said because, he promised same at GOIL as the Managing Director and he delivered.
Kojo Bonsu, spoke to Joy fm's Seth Kwame Boateng on a wide range of issues including security, job creation and education in the Kumasi Metropolis.
Kojo Bonsu said by the time his term comes to an end, the lost accolade of Kumasi as the Garden City of West Africa would have been reclaimed.
His initiatives among others will include planting 1 million trees in Kumasi and ridding the city of filth.
"The whole world is talking about green [revolution]", he said and promised "
my term is 4 years,by 2017, I will plant 1 million trees in Kumasi".
He said together with Parks and Gardens department, trees will be planted at "ceremonial places..triangular areas and roundabouts".
On security, he said the Assembly plans to install CCTV cameras to curb rampant crime in the city.
"In the whole business district we need about 200 cameras. That is not difficult for the KMA to do", he noted.
His dependence would not be on government but "on internally generated funds".
Additionally, he will build two "200-capacity libraries" in Kumasi to shore up the standard of education in the metropolis.
With a plan, a budget and a team, "it’s achievable", he concluded.
